Profit and Loss Report
Compare paid invoices by issue date with expenses by expense date.
The Finance Profit and Loss report compares paid-invoice totals with recorded expenses by month. It is an operational management report.
Open the report
Open Reports > Finance > Profit and Loss, then select the date range and currency.
How amounts are included
| Amount | Basis |
|---|---|
| Revenue | Total value of invoices currently marked Paid, using invoice issue date |
| Expenses | Recorded expense amounts, using expense date |
| Profit | Revenue minus expenses for the month |
Deleted records are excluded. The expense calculation does not require a paid or approved expense status. An invoice paid after its issue month can change that earlier month's result.
This report does not provide a payment-date cash-flow statement or a general-ledger profit and loss statement. Use Payment Collection for completed payments by payment date.
Currency
Select one currency before comparing totals or exporting. Without a currency filter, the report adds stored amounts across currencies without converting them to a common base currency.
Investigate a difference
Check the source invoice's paid status and issue date, then the expense's amount and expense date. Compare the same currency and period with Revenue Summary and Expense Summary. Review duplicate or incorrectly dated records before exporting.
